Giorgio Griffa - painting the evolving: Dipingere il divenire

12 March - 14 May 2009

Opening on Tuesday, March 12th, at 6:00 pm is the personal exhibition of Giorgio Griffa, titled "Paint the Evolving". Giorgio Griffa is one of the most creative leaders of the artistic trend that was born at the end of the 1960s, called “Analytical Painting” or “Painting Painting”. On exhibit will be about thirty works, of large and medium dimensions, that reflect the work of this period. These paintings are distinguished by their essential formal composition: signs, lines, stripes, arabesques, sometimes blurry, other paintings in a clear uniform colored way; an instantaneous painting, vivid and bright, executed without hesitation.
One way to paint without reference is to shift the emphasis onto the real elements of the painting. The canvas itself has no frame and is suspended on the wall, the color is expressed through primary decorative elements, and the space becomes an integral part of the pictorial composition. This is a minimal and conceptual art style, far from the classic elements of painting and pushed towards a dimension between the finite and the infinite.
