Liu Ruowang was born in 1977 in the mountain area of Jiaxian County of Yulin district in the northern province of Shaanxi province, which was one of the first areas that accepted Catholic missionaries in China. "Ruowang", his given name, is homonymic to John, the Catholic saint.
Liu Ruowang is a young artist who grew up after the reform of China. He moved to the provincial capital city from a small and poor mountain village of Western China to purse his education, and later to the Capital of China.
In 1996 he was admitted to the fashion Design course at Xi'an Polytechnic University; later, in 1998, he left the school because he was willing to become a painter. He came to Beijing in 1999, where he attended the postgraduate course as teaching assistant at the Central Academy of Fine Arts from 2002 to 2005. In 2005, his artwork The East is Red partecipated in the Light of the Academy exhibition of excellent artworks held by CAFA and was awarded.
Liu Ruowang's oeuvre is composed of sculptural series, including Original Sin, Wolves Coming, Heaven Soldier, The People, Melody, Dodo, and pictorial series, from which Living Things stands out.
Since 2005, his work have begun to be known and appreciated in all Chinese artistic associations, and abroad. They have been exhibited in many cities around the world,including Beijing, Shanghai, Singapore, Seoul, Queenstown, Venice, Turin, Büdelsdorf in Germany, where he won the NordArt prize in 2016. In the same year, he was awarded the Naples International Cultural Classic Prize.
In 2018 the DoDo Art Museum opens, located in the North East of Beijing, whose project was entrusted to the studio: Unarchitecte, headed by Zhang Hetian.
His installation "Wolves coming'' was exhibited in Naples in Piazza del Municipio from November 2019 to June 2020, subsequently landed in Florence in Piazza SS. Annunziata and Piazza Pitti.
His work can be found in major collections and prestigious museums worldwide.
