MIEN AND PRESENCE II

KOJI YAMAMOTO – KUROSHIO / BLACK TIDE

This exhibition was organised with new exhibits and greatly expanded content, using the touring part of the exhibition “MIEN AND PRESENCE / Noh Mask and Contemporary Abstraction Confrontation between Koukun Ohtsuki and Koji Yamamoto” organised by the Kanazawa Noh Museum.

To the "Old Pine / Dragon” (four sliding doors, 4m) from “Sesshu and Koji Yamamoto" at the Kumaya Art Museum in 2019, and a new work “Kuroshio (Black Tide) “ (6 sliding doors, 5m) was added to the exhib
ition, making it a magnificent 11m long on both sides with the addition of the bulkheads.

In addition, the gold maki-e (lacquered objects) inkstone box "Carp Climbing Waterfall" by Korin Ogata and two tea containers and four sake-cups of Edo period (both from the Kumagaya Art Museum Collection) were displayed alongside the new tableaux from the "Another Nature" and "Kuroshio (Black Tide) " series, creating a beautiful contrast between classic and contemporary art.
