Bologna ARTEFIERA
Hall 26 | Stand B13
lorenzelli arte, after the Miart stand dedicated to the blue of Piero Dorazio, returns to Bologna Artefiera with an exhibition project entirely dedicated to the Roman artist, a selection of large scale works (from 1959 to 1989) where the common denominator is red, the color is constraint itself for the artistic quality, which Dorazio uses with a provocative expressive power.
The provocation, far from rhetoric, is inherent in the work and spirit of the artist, who has always shown that he has a lucid and sharp look capable of describing his time and anticipating the contours of the future.
Already in 1988 he wrote:
“ […] The prevailing attitude towards art these days seems to be that the work of art is on a par with any other property likely to produce wordly success, profits, and to understand the artist’s deepest commitment, just like the products of any other maker of objects or cultural fetishes. [...] Even aesthetics has become tangible material and predictable within the economic parameters of a programme. [...] Instead of directing itself towards an interior world, towards fantasy, with clear and new idioms, art has risen to the surface in search of novelty, which is now a cheap substitute of authentic originality. We could be accused of being snobs and prickly and perfectionists instead we are simply trying to preserve that traditional understanding which connects by natural inclination, the artist who sets a goal and the dealer who manages to interpret the show for his peers.”
The gallery has been following and supporting Dorazio’s work for over fifty years, sharing its tension towards a qualitative and authentic research. The project for Bologna Artefiera therefore aims to underline these values necessary for the contemporary panorama to the eyes of the public and the market.
