Giuseppe Maraniello was born in Naples in 1945. 
In 1969, he came into contact with the Gallery Morra of Naples, in 1971 he moved to Milan where he worked with Luciano Inga Pin. From the second half of the Seventies he exhibits in public spaces in group shows, such as in 1979 “L'estetico e il Selvaggio” at the Galleria Civica d'Arte Moderna, Modena, cured by Giorgio Cortenova, in 1980 “Italiana Nuova Immagine” at Loggetta Lombardesca, Ravenna, cured by Achille Bonito Oliva, at Bologna, “Dieci anni dopo i nuovi nuovi”, Galleria d'Arte Moderna, cured by Francesca Alinovi, Renato Barilli and Roberto Daolio. In 1982 he shows at the Hayward Gallery in London, he participates to the show “Arte Italiana 1960-1982” cured by Guido Ballo, Renato Barilli and Flavio Caroli. In 1985 he exhibits “Intorno al flauto magico”, cured by Gillo Dorfles at Palazzo della Permanente, Milan. In 1990 he is invited with a personal space to the XLIV Biennale d'Arte of Venice, with presentation in the catalogue of Lea Vergine. In the same year he is at the Palazzo della Virreina of Barcelona, at the Palazzo di Cristallo of Madrid and of Matidenhohe Darmstadt for the exhibition “L'altra scultura” cured by Renato Barilli. In 1992 he participates to the itinerant show “Cadenze, figure dell'arte italiana degli anni '90”, cured by Pier Giovanni Castagnoli, in the Museum Sofia Imber of Caracas and in the Museum of Modern Art in Bogotà. In 1993 he has, contemporary, a retrospective cured by Pier Giovanni Castagnoli and Danilo Eccher at the Galleria Civica of Trento and at the Galleria d'Arte Moderna of Bologna – Villa delle Rose. In 1994 he shows at the exhibition “L'incanto e la trascendenza” cured by Danilo Eccher at Castel Ivano, Ivano Fracena, Trento. 
In 1997 he participates to the exhibition “Arte Italiana – Materiali Anomali” cured by Danilo Eccher and Dede Auregli at the Galleria d'Arte Moderna of Bologna, that has one of his sculptures permanently in its gardens. In 1998 he shows at the exhibition “Trash” cured by Lea Vergine, Palazzo delle Albere, Trento. Again with Luigi Mainolfi in 1998 he shows at the “Pescheria” of Pesaro. In 2001 he has a personal show at the Fortezza Firmafede of Sarzana and in 2002 at the Rocca Sforzesca of Imola. In 2004 the City of Ischia dedicates to him a retrospective to the Torre Guevara. At the Mart of Rovereto he joins the show “Il bello e le bestie” cured by Lea Vergine, Giorgio Verzotti and Jean-Hubert Martin. In 2005 he exhibits at the Foundation Arnaldo Pomodoro “Scultura italiana del XX secolo”. In 2006 he opens the Galleria Civica di Arco of Trento with one of his personal shows, cured by Giovanna Nicoletti. In 2009 he installs in the city of Terni a public work of 24 meters high in Piazza dei Poeti. 
In 2009 he shows in Florence a large retrospective, cured by Danilo Eccher in the Garden of Boboli, in Piazza Pitti and in the building ‘Le Pagliere'. 
In the same year in Monza he joins the show “Gli Anni 80 - Il Trionfo della Pittura”, cured by Marco Meneguzzo. 
In 2010 he participates to “Pagine da un bestiario fantastico. Disegno italiano nel XX e XXI secolo” cured by Silvia Ferrari, Serena Goldoni and Flaminio Gualdoni, at the Galleria Civica di Modena.
