Luca Caccioni was born in Bologna in 1962, where he currently resides. He attended the arts high school and then the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna where he earned a degree in painting in 1985. In the same year he became part in the A.G.O group, with whom he worked on advertising until becoming Artistic and Creative Director. Since 1988, while continuing his artistic activity, he began teaching, first in Palermo, then at the Academy of Brera in Milan, and currently at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna.
His first important exhibitions were held at the beginning the 1990s: starting with his 1990 participation in “Nuova Officina Bolognese” at the Galleria d'Arte Moderna of Bologna and then with his first solo show in 1991, which took place at the Spazia Gallery. His artistic research then moved towards painting, overlapping unusual and contemporary materials such as acetates, on which he painted forms, signs, and places drawn from his personal memory and influenced by different cultures and historical periods.
During the 1990s he held a sequence of solo shows in Italy and abroad, in particular at the Gianni Giacobbi Gallery in Palma di Majorca, Studio La Città of Verona, Gentili Gallery in Florence, Marconi Gallery in Milan (1993). In 1994 he won the Michetti Prize of Francavilla a Mare. His first show in a public space was held at the Palazzina dei Giardini of Modena, organized in 1997. For this show Caccioni made an installation and some sculptures for the exhibition space, opening the field of research to these mediums, which would later have a consistent presence in his research.
In 1996 and 2004 he participated in the Quadrennial of Rome. Also during these years he held many exhibitions in Italy and abroad: Deutsche Academy at Villa Massimo in Rome, solo show at the Sales Gallery in Barcelona, and Greene Gallery in Geneva. In 1998 he held a solo show in “Spazio Aperto” at GAM in Bologna.
The following years the relationship between Caccioni and a number of important galleries in Italy and abroad strengthened, such as Lorenzelli Arte in Milan, Carzaniga and Uecker in Basel, and Otto Gallery in Bologna were established.
During these years his work was also exhibited with regularity in major international art fairs like those held in Basel, Miami, Cologne, Brussels, Frankfurt, Zurich, and Paris. In 2004 he had a solo show at the Oredaria Gallery in Rome, accompanied by a catalogue published by Skira. In 2005 his work was included by the MART of Trento and Rovereto in the show entitled “Per Esempio”, with works from the Unicredit Collection. His works are in important permanent collections, foundations and museums in Italy and abroad. In 2006 he presented “Ipnosi”, a new series of works at the Otto Gallery in Bologna.
